Memory Route in LIMA

Session Information

Routes of Memory is an initiative supported by CISEPA, the Institute of Democracy and Human Rights of the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru (IDEHPUCP), and the Peruvian Forensic Anthropology Team (EPAF). It will take place as part of the Eighth Annual Conference of the Memory Studies Association (MSA) in Lima on Wednesday, July 17, at 9:00 a.m. This event will be an opportunity to foster reflection among both national and international audiences on how processes of violence shape public space-geographic, political, and virtual-even when these processes are ongoing or there are no established initiatives in place. This journey invites participants to reflect on the lessons of the past, as well as the paths toward justice, reconciliation, and democracy.

Routes of Memory is conceived as a symbolic reparation to the victims in Lima, including students, journalists, residents, and state agents who faced terror and death during the internal armed conflict. This recognition, which originates from the actions of the victims and is embraced by the university in its role as a research center and socially responsible institution, contributes to both individual and collective memories as part of our country's recent history.

The activity will begin in Miraflores at 9:00 a.m. (meeting point: Tierra Viva Hotel on Alcanfores Street), with a tour of five memory sites in Lima, and will end at the Place of Memory, Tolerance, and Social Inclusion (LUM) (Bajada, Ca. San Martín 151, Miraflores) at approximately 2:00 p.m. (after the LUM tour).
